Responding to client’s predilection for perforated metal panel, the shopfront was designed to be covered with single material of perforated metal panel replacing the existing glass shopfront. The single surface of metal panels also covered up the existing stone header in order to gain simple yet elaborated image of the coffee shop in contrast to other shops in the neighborhood.
The perforated metal panels also triggered an idea of fabricating logo of the coffee shop integrated into the new facade, as the logo design has been developed by combining the image of ‘gombal’ (bear foot) and coffee bean. The sign of logo was formed with various lengths of steel pipes placed into each perforations of metal panel. The each pipe is equipped with optical fiber lit up on the end tips, and these 595 tips of fibers of the sign glows with soft luminescence at night. This shopfront with the integrated signage enables the coffee shop to stand out in the neighborhood attracting customers.
